George Simmons is a very successful yet self-involved stand-up comedian who learns that he has an inoperable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira Wright is a struggling up-and-coming stand-up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One thing these different men have in common is that neither of them has any close friends. One night, George takes notice of Ira when they perform at the same club and he hires him to be his semi-personal assistant and opening act at his performances. George and Ira form a close bond as George teaches Ira how to win the crowd and Ira helps the dying George find closure in his legacy.

Peter claims that he could beat Liam Neeson in a fight, but his skills are put to the test when Neeson actually shows up. Meanwhile, Stewie is annoyed with Lois when she becomes a class mom and starts paying more attention to other children.

The guys go to extremes to keep Vince away from temptation after he gets out of rehab in the eighth-season premiere, but they're also worried about triggering a relapse when he's excited about a lame idea for a movie. Meanwhile, Ari pleads with his wife to end their separation; and Eric and Scott court new clients for their fledgling management company.

As Vince shoots an action movie directed by Nick Cassavetes, he is asked to perform a dangerous driving stunt. Eric and Ari intervene, but there may be no stopping it. Now running a fledgling car service business, Turtle is frustrated when an employee named Alex causes problems for him. Drama wants a job since his holding deal will expire in eight weeks, but Lloyd has not been forthcoming about his prospects, and Ari is the one who gives Drama a harsh reality check.

Peter befriends a mob boss's nephew, Big Fat Paulie, while paying off a debt. But when he says that Lois does not want them to hang out anymore, Paulie misinterprets the situation and thinks that Peter wants him to kill her so they can still be friends, so Peter must find a way to call off the hit.
