The show presents an idealized vision of life in 1950s and early 1960s America. The family consists of Howard Cunningham, a hardware store owner, his homemaker wife Marion and the couple's two children, Richie, an optimistic if somewhat naive teenager, and Joanie, Ritchie's sweet but feisty younger sister. The Cunninghams also had an older son named Chuck, a character who disappeared during the second season. The earlier episodes revolve around Richie and his friends, Potsie Weber, Ralph Malph and local dropout Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli, but as the series progressed, "Fonzie" proved to be a favorite with viewers and soon more story lines were written to reflect his growing popularity. Soon Fonzie befriended Richie and the Cunningham family. The focus would also occasionally shift to other additional characters, such as Fonzie's cousin Chachi, who became a love interest for Joanie Cunningham.

When Roger is rejected by Steve, he heads out in search of a new human companion. But when his new friend starts to abuse Roger, Steve and Hayley plot to get Roger out of the bad relationship. Meanwhile, Stan and Francine team up to save the Mr. Pibb factory after news hits that Mr. Pibb is going to be discontinued.

Vince and Ari must negotiate with both Warner Bros. and the director of Medellín in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with Aquaman 2. Turtle makes an appointment with Ari after rapper Saigon's single becomes a hit, much to the chagrin of Drama.

After forgetting their anniversary, Stan arranges to have the last 20 hours of Francine's memory erased, but a bungling technician accidentally erases 20 years, making Francine think she's a wild and carefree teenager from 1985.

Stewie builds a robot for a friend after he and Brian get into a fight. Meanwhile, Lois forces Peter to buy a new mattress

To pay off a debt, Rallo and Cleveland Jr. become "dog bounty hunters" tracking down lost pooches to return them to their owners for reward money. Meanwhile, Cleveland is furious when Donna's ex-husband, Robert, crashes Freight Train's birthday party and upstages Cleveland's gift for his dad.

Jane tries to seduce a younger man and David attempts to tell his mother about the baby.

Jackie is surprised when what she thinks is a simple lunch with Kevin turns out to be the start of a divorce. The staff get new uniforms and Jackie asks Zoey to move in with her.

Jackie and Frank break up, Carrie forgets Coop's 40th Birthday, Zoey decides she wants to become a Nurse Practitioner, and the DEA investigation continues. Jackie realizes that the only way she can keep using is to separate herself from those closest to her.
