While Mike tries to keep his Christmas gift of a new dishwasher a secret from Frankie, his wife plans a Christmas Eve party and wants him to install a new dishwasher prior to the festivities. Meanwhile, Sue asks Reverend TimTom to explain the deeper meaning of Christmas to Brick, who questions the holiday after reading the Bible. Elsewhere, Bob's attempts to act cool annoy Axl, while they work together on a Christmas tree lot.

Vince's new attitude - and new look - after his near-death experience causes a public relations crisis for his career. In the midst of a big meeting over the NFL TV rights, Ari attempts to fix the problem. Luckily, agent Lizzie Grant (Autumn Reeser) is there to take some heat off of him, but indirectly lands him in more trouble. Drama continues to panic over finding a job, so Eric offers to go through scripts with him. Turtle learns that someone charged $10,000 on his corporate credit card and Alex is the main suspect.

Lip and Ian spend the night in jail on grand theft auto charges. Lip tries to take the blame so that it won't prevent Ian enlisting in the Marines. Fiona tries to locate Steve while waiting in the police station; Debbie hastily visits Steve/Jimmy's mother and tells her the truth; Frank tries to foolishly manipulate Karen to keep recent history a secret, which pushes her off the edge; Fiona tries to find out the truth of the stolen car from Ian, who also admit to being gay; Frank over and over narcissistically tries to justify his sleeping with Karen in front of the bar patrons, and tries to lecture to his audience, even going as far as using profanities about Ethel and Kev's relationship in front of Kev; Steve offers Tony the house he bought; while Karen is having depression, Lip visits her and in a passionate moment tells her that he loves her, which results in a breakup; Eddie finds out that Frank slept with Karen and goes in search of revenge, which makes Frank a homeless fugitive later, joined by Lip, which then turns into a violent showdown until Kev comes and stops Lip. Fiona has a difficult decision to make when Steve asks her to run away with him to Costa Rica. Frank tries to justify it about not having money and starts steering the conversation towards Sheila's money. Broken about past events, Eddie Jackson digs up a big ice fishing hole, ties a cement block to his feet, and jumps in the frozen lake; Lip and Karen make up; Fiona initially decides to go with Steve, but then changes her mind.

After Cleveland criticizes her parenting skills, Donna lets him deal with Roberta by himself; Cleveland lets Roberta throw a house party.

In the fourth-season opener, Frankie gets nostalgic about the summers of her youth. Meanwhile, Axl attends summer school; Frankie wants to know which parent her kids favor; Brick grows a tomato; and Sue attempts to bond with her dad.

As the study group assemble their 20th and final diorama for their anthropology class, they reminisce about their favorite moments over the past year (all never-before-seen flashbacks). Meanwhile, Troy's monkey reappears but disappears back into the ventilation system, leading Senor Chang to try to get the monkey, as well retrieve all their stolen loot.

A documentary crew films the activities of the workers in a nursing home. Derek, a 49 year old worker who loves his job and the people he cares for, introduces the crew to some of the workers and residents. Hannah, who runs the nursing home, is interviewed on how she got to where she is, and her relationship history. Derek and Hannah walk around outside in a grassy field and around a pond. Derek, thinking he sees a spider, gets scared and falls into the pond. Hannah attempts to get Derek to find out discreetly if Tom (in whom she is interested, and who is a relation of a resident) is gay, but the plan backfires. Hannah takes Derek to the pub, where three nearby women make fun of Derek's looks. Hannah and Derek leave, but not before Hannah headbutts one of the women. Later in the day, one of the residents dies, which greatly upsets Derek. After a memorial service, Hannah and Tom leave for a pub.

Single dad George (Jeremy Sisto) decides to move him and and his 16 year old daughter Tessa (Jane Levy) out of New York and into the suburbs, where George hopes that the move will help him get closer with his daughter. However, Tessa is too horrified by all the big-haired, fake-boobed mothers and over-manicured lawns, to bond with her father.

Greendale's choir director (Taran Killam) asks the study group to fill in at the holiday pageant after the glee club is unable to attend

Actor Ryan Reynolds visits Quahog and befriends Peter. Stewie gets into trouble when he takes Brian's car for a drive.

Fiona faces new challenges as a party promoter in the same club where she worked as a waitress; she ends up losing $100 for the night, which is good for a first time, but she only did that well because Lip tricked rich kids into coming there for a concert that didn't exist. Estefania's father has assigned Beto to watch over Jimmy's every move, causing Jimmy frustration. Lip's teachers and Mandy try getting Lip to prepare his resume and application for college but he just continues to serve community service and hustle money to pay the house taxes. Frank staggers home and clashes with the rest of the Gallaghers due to his drunken antics; after trying to take care of Frank, showing him kindness and love, Debbie finally has enough of Frank's bad behavior, hitting him with a homemade weapon. Ian deals with the return of Mickey and tries to figure out if they're in a relationship. Veronica gets a surprise at her door in the form of Kev's wife. Sheila and Jody struggle to adjust to parental life with baby Hymie; they have Debbie babysit and even let Frank stay because he seems to quiet Hymie.

During his Vanity Fair photo shoot, Vince reads the article for his interview, and sets out to right a perceived wrong. Turtle starts to bring his favorite restaurant to Hollywood, and even though he gives the owners a first-class treatment, they have other ideas. Eric gets an expensive gift from Melinda, as well as news about one of his other new clients. Drama faces pressure from Billy, Phil, and Andrew Dice Clay over his going on strike. Ari also faces pressure regarding his divorce, then confronts his wife - whose name is revealed - over the fact that he's never hidden his true nature from her.

Lily and Marshall invite Robin and Kevin on a Valentine's Day trip to Vermont. Kevin and Robin use the trip to talk about taking their relationship to the next level. Meanwhile, Barney realizes he has finally met his match.

On a visit to Harvard University, Quagmire accidentally marries a prostitute. In an attempt to get out of the marriage, he pretends that he and Peter are actually lovers.

Barney wants all his employees to join him in a walkathon to raise awareness about ABS(Angry Bowel Syndrome). Jimmy is the only one who supports him, because he suffered from JABS (Juvenille ABS), due to his parents continuous bickering. Sabrina gets into a argument with Wyatt, her ex-boy friend about old gifts. Virginia & Bert worry that they are growing old and start acting young.

In the episode, Erin and Gabe invite the office over to Gabe's house for a 'Glee' viewing party. Michael can't deal when people refer to Gabe as his boss. Andy grows more jealous of Gabe's relationship with Erin.

When Rallo and his pals Bernard and Theodore perform in the school talent show, their rap about fiscal responsibility is not well-received by their classmates. Meanwhile, after Cleveland gets his own cable-access television show, the reviews are less than positive so he takes some tips from the most successful daytime talk shows that appeal to women.

The NFL commercial features a ton of new and old pop culture TV references. The are saying everyone is part of the NFL family of fans. We then see characters from Happy Days with a Green Bay Packers helmet serving bowl and the Fonze wearing a jersy, some girls from 90210 in Raiders gear, and Jerry and Kramer from Seinfeld in Giants and Bills clothes. We then see Andy and Dwight from The Office in front of a Super Bowl Party Planning Committee sign with everyone in Steelers gear, The Sopranos in Jets outfits, Jerry from Seinfeld in a Giants sweatshirt and Newman in a Cowboys costume, Norm from Cheers in a Patriots jersey, ???, the Golden Girls putting out food for a football party, and Joey and Jesse from Full House in 49ers stuff.
