The series follows the everyday lives of a modern day American family, each with different backgrounds, as they are taped by a Dutch documentary crew, who is using them as the subject of a reality-based television series that will air in The Netherlands.
The family is the Pritchett-Delgado-Dunphy clan. This extended family consists of patriach father Jay, his much younger Colombian-born second wife Gloria and their teenage son Manny, Jay's daughter (from his first marriage) Claire, her husband Phil and their three children, Jay's openly gay son Mitchell, his husband Cameron and their adopted baby girl from Vietnam, Lily. Each episode is expected to capture their complicated, yet normal settings during their taping.
'Modern Family' received two (2) 2014 Golden Globe Nominations:
"Best TV Musical or Comedy"
"Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy" (Sofia Vergara)
