Despite it being the first Stadium title in Western regions, the game is a sequel to the 1998 Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Stadium (??????????), which was only released in Japan. Gameplay is built around a 3D turn-based battling system featuring all 151 creatures from the Game Boy games Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow.
