Pokemon is a series of video games developed by Game Freak and Creatures Inc. and published by Nintendo as part of the Pokemon media franchise. First released in 1996 in Japan for the Game Boy, the main series of role-playing video games (RPG) has continued on each generation of Nintendo's handhelds. Games are commonly released in pairs-each with slight variations-and then an enhanced remake of the games is released a few years from the original release. While the main series consists of role-playing games, spinoffs encompass other genres such as action role-playing, puzzle, and digital pet games. It is the second best-selling video game franchise worldwide, next to Nintendo's own Mario franchise.

Pokemon GO is a 2016 augmented reality game for mobile phones developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. The game uses the Pokemon Go Plus, a small wearable device developed by Nintendo, which uses a Bluetooth connection to notify users when a Pokemon is nearby with a LED and a light rumble. The game allows players to capture, battle, train and trade virtual Pokemon who appear throughout the real world. The game is be free-to-play, although it will support in-app purchases. The idea for the game was conceived in 2013 by Satoru Iwata of Nintendo and Tsunekazu Ishihara of The Pokemon Company. In 2015, Ishihara dedicated his speech at the game's announcement on September 10 to Iwata, who died two months earlier. Ishihara and his wife had played Ingress. Different Pokemon will live in different areas of the world - for example, water type Pokemon will live near water. There will be events held where players can trade Pokemon to build up their collection. A wristband device called the "Pokemon Go Plus" will ship with the game, to allow a more "heads-up" gaming experience than Ingress, where the player can be alerted to a nearby pokemon by the Go Plus vibrating, press the button in a coded sequence to capture it and check the app later to find out what they've captured. The decision to create the Go Plus rather than create a smart watch app was to increase uptake among players for whom a smart watch is prohibitively expensive.

This fictitious video game is referenced in The Fault in Our Stars. Augustus Waters' favorite book was a novelization of this game.

StarCraft is a military science fiction media franchise created by Chris Metzen and James Phinney, and owned by Blizzard Entertainment. The series centers on a galactic struggle for dominance between three species-the adaptable and mobile Terrans, the insectoid Zerg, and the enigmatic Protoss-in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy known as the Koprulu Sector at the beginning of the 26th century.

Asphalt 8: Airborne is a 2013 racing video game, developed and published by Gameloft as part of the Asphalt series.

Super Mario Bros. is a platform video game developed by Nintendo in late 1985 and published for the Nintendo Entertainment System as a sequel to the 1983 game Mario Bros.. In Super Mario Bros., the titular character, Mario, saves Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom from King Koopa (later renamed Bowser), king of the Koopas. Mario's younger brother, Luigi, is playable by the second player in the game's multiplayer mode, and assumes the same plot role as Mario. To save Princess Toadstool, Mario conquers the eight worlds of the Mushroom Kingdom by going to the castle in each to defeat a minion of King Koopa. To reach each castle, Mario battles through three "sub-worlds" by defeating or avoiding King Koopa's henchmen. If Mario successfully fights his way through the castle and defeats the minion, a Mushroom Retainer is freed. Inside the eighth castle, Mario has a final fight with King Koopa and free Princess Toadstool.

Pocket Monsters Blue was released in Japan as a mail order-only special edition to subscribers of CoroCoro Comic on October 15, 1996. It was later released to general retail on October 10, 1999. The game featured updated in-game artwork and new dialogue for Pokemon Red and Blue. Using Blastoise as its mascot, the code, script, and artwork for Blue was used for the international releases of Red and Green, which were renamed to Red and Blue. The Japanese Blue edition of the game features all but a handful of Pokemon available in Red and Green, making certain Pokemon exclusive to the original editions.

Pokemon Colosseum is a role-playing video game developed by Genius Sonority and published by Nintendo as part of the Pokemon series. It was released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube on November 21, 2003, in Japan; March 22, 2004, in North America; and May 14, 2004, in Europe. Unlike previous titles, the game does not feature random encounters with Pokemon; instead, the player can steal ("snag") the Pokemon of other Pokemon Trainers. The game also features several battle modes for single-player and multiplayer gameplay.

Pokemon Stadium is a strategy video game developed by Nintendo EAD with the assistance of Creatures and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 video game console. It was released on April 30, 1999, in Japan, March 6, 2000, in North America, March 23, 2000, in Australia, and April 7, 2000, in Europe. Despite it being the first Stadium title in Western regions, the game is a sequel to the 1998 Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Stadium (??????????), which was only released in Japan. Gameplay is built around a 3D turn-based battling system featuring all 151 creatures from the Game Boy games Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Pokemon Puzzle League is a puzzle game for the Nintendo 64 console. It is based on Nintendo's Puzzle League puzzle games, but with Pokemon likenesses. It was only available in North America starting in 2000, and in Europe in 2001, making it the first Pokemon game produced for North America. It is so far the only Pokemon game to be based on the Pokemon anime, and to feature Ash Ketchum and any of the characters featured from the anime. The game was released on the Virtual Console on May 5, 2008, in the North America region, and on May 30, 2008, in the European region.

Pokemon Stadium 2 is a video game for the Nintendo 64. It features all 251 Pokemon from the first and second generations. It was released in North America as simply Pokemon Stadium 2, as it was the second Stadium game to be released there. In Japan, Pocket Monsters' Stadium Kin Gin was the third game of the Pokemon Stadium series. The Japanese edition also featured the capability to use the Pokemon Mobile System from Pokemon Crystal which was also released on the same day. This game featured support for all three original Game Boy Pokemon games (Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow) and the three Game Boy Color games (Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal). As in the previous Stadium games, Pikachu from Yellow was a hidden character if the game cartridge was connected. The majority of the game takes place inside the new location White City, where various facilities for battling, organizing, researching, and playing with Pokemon are located. This can be considered to be the Pokemon League for the second generation games. The sequel to the popular Pokemon Stadium features minigames, multiplayer, and league mode.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA is a 2009 rhythm game created by Sega and Crypton Future Media for the PlayStation Portable. The game was first released on July 2, 2009 in Japan with no international release. The game primarily makes use of Vocaloids, a series of singing synthesizer software, and the songs created using these Vocaloids most notably the virtual-diva Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. The game is the first video game to utilize the Vocaloid software developed by the Yamaha Corporation.

Pokemon Rumble World is a freemium action video game in the Pokemon series developed by Ambrella and published by The Pokemon Company for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the fourth game in the Pokemon Rumble subseries, and features toy versions of all 719 creatures from the first six generations. The game was first released worldwide as a download title on the Nintendo eShop on April 8, 2015, with physical retail versions available in Japan the following November, and Europe in January 2016.
