Shrek, a solitary ogre, finds a surprise when fairy tale creatures are sent to live in his swamp by the evil Lord Farquaad. Shrek befriends a talking Donkey, and the two set off to meet with Lord Farquaad. Lord Farquaad needs Princess Fiona to marry him so that he will become king. So when Shrek and Donkey visit him, they are forced to rescue her from an enormous fire-breathing dragon. The Dragon turns out to be a girl and she falls in love with Donkey. However Donkey escapes and Dragon chases them. Once Shrek and Donkey rescue Fiona they take her back to Lord Farquaad. However, along the way, Shrek falls in love with Fiona. Fiona reveals she is cursed and turns into an ogress at night. The only way the curse can be broken is by true love's first kiss. Fiona and Farquaad have a marriage ceremony; however they are interrupted by Shrek who tells Fiona he loves her. Shrek and Fiona kiss and Fiona turns into an ogress permanently. Shrek gets his swamp back, and the two marry there. After a karaoke party the two set off on their honeymoon. The film is set in a fairytale world, with appearances from commonly known fairytale characters.

Set a year after Toy Story (1995), Andy accidentally tears Woody's arm while playing with him before leaving for cowboy camp (an annual trip he makes with Woody), leaving Woody on the shelf. Woody has nightmares of becoming a disused toy, but wakes to find that Wheezy, a penguin toy that lost its squeaker, is being taken by Andy's mother to be sold at a yard sale. Woody rescues Wheezy with the help of Andy's dog Buster (who was mentioned at the end of the previous film as a puppy), but he is accidentally left behind at the yard sale and subsequently stolen by toy store owner Al McWhiggin. Buzz Lightyear and the other toys watch in horror, and Buzz sets up a rescue party with Mr. Potato Head, Rex, Slinky Dog and Hamm to bring Woody back.

In the 16th Century, a young Scotsman named Connor MacLeod receives a mortal wound in battle. When he survives certain death, his clan determines that he has made a deal with the devil and banishes him. Some years later, after marrying a woman named Heather, he meets his soon-to-be-mentor, Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. He learns from Ramirez that they are both members of a group of immortals who can only die by decapitation and who must battle amongst themselves throughout the ages until only one is left to inherit the world. In 1985, Connor lives in New York City as an antiques dealer named Russell Nash. After beheading a fellow immortal in a parking garage below Madison Square Garden, Nash becomes the target of a police investigation. Meanwhile, an ancient warrior known as The Kurgan (who had wounded Connor on the battlefield and killed Ramirez in the 1500s) and other immortals gather in New York for the final fight. In the end, there can be only one.

Francis Xavier "Frank" Cross is a conceited, cynical television programming executive. He has found great success and wealth, but has become cold-hearted and cruel. In the opening scenes he can be seen working out in a room with a wallpaper border that reads "Cross: A thing they nail people to". His ruthless concentration on his lucrative, fast climbing career has cost him his true love, Claire. It has also alienated him from his family, and obliterated any chance of his having a happy and fulfilling life. Essentially, Frank has become nothing but an expensive black suit who barks orders. He grossly overworks his assistant Grace Cooley, forcing her to constantly break plans with her family. When Cross is given the task of heading up a live broadcast of A Christmas Carol, his life inexplicably begins to mirror the story he's producing. First, the ghost of his mentor, 1970-media mogul Lew Hayward, visits him to show him the error of his ways. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future then appear, and Frank repents. The reformed Frank reunites with Claire, who now runs a shelter for the homeless, and he finds in the end that there are more important things than winning the ratings war.

The film tells the story of private investigator Eddie Valiant caught in a mystery that involves Roger Rabbit, an A-list Toon who is framed for murder.

The movie is an interpretation of the legend of The Headless Horseman and based loosely around the Washington Irving story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The story centers on police constable Ichabod Crane sent from New York City to investigate a series of murders in the village Sleepy Hollow by a mysterious Headless Horseman.
