Tropic Thunder tells the tale of a group of prima donna actors filming a Vietnam War movie when their fed-up writer-director decides to dump them in the middle of a real war.

Wonder Boys is a 2000 film about professor Grady Tripp, a novelist who teaches creative writing at a Pittsburgh university. He has been unable to finish his second novel, his young wife has left him, and he is sleeping with his boss's wife, who is also the Chancellor of the university. Grady's editor is in town to take a look at the book and becomes interested in a book that a student from Grady's creative writing class has just completed.

The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, an Alabama simpleton who travels across the world, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture, and experiencing firsthand some of the historic events of the late 20th century.

The plot follows a love triangle between a young woman, her Marine husband and the paralyzed Vietnam War veteran she meets while he is overseas.

The film is set in 1968, the day Richard Nixon was first elected to the White House, and was released soon after the Watergate scandal had reached its messy conclusion. The political atmosphere provides a source of dramatic irony, since the audience, but not the characters, are aware of the direction the Nixon presidency would eventually take. However, the main theme of the film is not presidential politics but sexual politics; it is renowned for its sharp satire of late-1960s sexual and social mores.

In 1972, a film version of the book was released. The film was directed by Paul Williams and starred Robert F. Lyons. This was John Lithgow's debut film in the supporting role of John, the campus drug dealer. Barbara Hershey appears in the role of the novice drug-courier, Susan, who loses the bag of bricks on a cross-country flight from Berkeley to Boston.

Public support for the war declines, and American men of draft age face difficult decisions and wrenching moral choices. After police battle with demonstrators in the streets of Chicago, Richard Nixon wins the presidency, promising law and order at home and peace overseas. In Vietnam, the war goes on and soldiers on all sides witness terrible savagery and unflinching courage.

Special Episode.The main cast introduce the episode out of character by paying tribute to those affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks and informing viewers about what to expect from the delayed premiere of the third season. The cast also makes it clear that this episode doesn't fall within the regular West Wing story line. In the episode, the White House is "crashed" (locked down for security purposes) due to the mistaken identity of a White House staffer of Middle Eastern descent. This causes a group of teens who were visiting the White House to become stuck in the mess hall with Josh and Donna. Throughout the episode, several other White House staffers, as well as the President and First Lady, drop in to join the discussion which is related to the reasons behind terrorism. Meanwhile, Leo and presidential Secret Service agent Ron Butterfield confront the potential threat from within.
