Learn how video games helped DJ Porter Robinson develop his unique sound. "Made in a Minute: Porter Robinson" There was a forum called Something Awful. It was another very, like, advanced community, but it was also elitist. Me and my brother interacted on there without knowing that it was one another for a while. I've definitely also gotten in, like, internet fights with my friends without realizing it was my friends. Hey, I'm Porter Robinson and this is how I made it. I'd never seen a DJ, ever. When I was 12 years old, the only music I really liked was Japanese video game music. And so I was just making electronic music for ten hours a day and when I was 18 I had a song that happened to kind of like blow up on the internet, and people were suddenly asking me to DJ. And so that's how to do that at age 18. It was very much a baptism by fire for me. I'm stoked. I'm happy to be a part of it and I'm happy to, like, get to go around and play beats that I think are cool. I think I have kind of a different way of coming into it and there's no question that, like, video games, and this guy right here were influential in that.
