Marshall's excessive Xanax use continues. He learns that Jason is going out with a girl and realizes that Kate was right that T may have been trying to protect Marshall from the "bi-curious" Jason. He visits the hospital and apologizes to his mother. Kate's sexual harassment claim falls flat. But later, she unexpectedly finds Gene at her house. He's been fired from his job and professes his intense love, and says that they should run away together. Kate slips out the back door and flees in her mom's car. Tara and Max agree to meet Tripp Johannesen, the man responsible for Tara's trauma, at the clinic under the supervision of Dr. Holden. Tripp and his wife arrive, and he says all that he can remember about that night.

Joel's grandma visits for Hanukkah. Zoe finds herself in the middle of family drama with Vivian Wilkes when she invites her uncle to Hanukkah celebration. Lemon, with the help of George and Lynly, does some recon work on Shelby. Tansy convinces Wade to go to the dentist for his tooth ache, and to find a more suitable girlfriend than the girls he's been going after lately.

After rashly breaking up with Stella, Ted is involved in a car accident. He re-evaluates his life and relationship with Stella, who didn't realize she had been dumped. Surrounded by Marshall, Lily, and Robin, Stella then dumps him. Meanwhile, Barney rushes to the hospital but is hit by a bus, seriously injuring him and leading to Ted and Barney's reconciliation. He then realizes he is in love with Robin. Ted proposes to Stella after meeting in a Chuck E. Cheese-like funhouse.
