Peter seeks answers about his father's death and learns that Benny had refused to posthumously approve an award for Peter's father. They fight after Benny calls the deceased man a coward for panicking in the fire that also killed another firefighter. Boden suspends Peter and later tells Dawson that he had an affair with Peter's mother when both were married. Heather and Casey get closer, but he wishes not disrespect her husband's, and his friend's, memory and wants to only be friends with her. Benny packs up and leaves, apologizing to his son, who later tells Peter that he would be a great addition to Squad, and gives him tips on what training to take to make the transfer from Truck to Squad.

Ben and Kate, two single New Yorkers, accidentally meet each other at the top of the Empire State Building and decide to make a date for later that night. Before the date Kate and Ben decide to bring their best friends, Connie and Larry to try and see if they could fall in love to, but after they meet for the first time, they instantly despise each other.
