Description

Pantry Panic is the third animated cartoon short in the Woody Woodpecker series. Released theatrically on November 24, 1941, the film was produced by Walter Lantz Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. Woody stays behind to swim while the other birds in the forest migrate south for the winter. Just after the other birds leave, the cold of winter sets in instantly, to the point that Woody's swimming hole freezes solid after he jumps in ("Must be hard water", he remarks). Woody does not worry, because he has stored up plenty of food. However, a snow storm enters his house and makes off with all of his possessions, food included. Two weeks later, Woody is delusional and literally staring starvation, personified as something vaguely resembling the Grim Reaper, in the face. A month later, a hungry cat happens upon Woody's cabin, and conspires to eat the woodpecker. The famished Woody, however, plans just as quickly to eat the cat, and the two have at it. Eventually a moose appears at Woody's open door, and the starving cat and woodpecker chase after it to capture and eat it. Afterwards, however, the meal proves not to be enough to satisfy both Woody (whose voice is suddenly much different) and the cat, who instantly resume their game of trying to eat each other. Danny Webb was the voice of Woody Woodpecker; the Cat and the Moose, and bird voices were likely done by Sara Berner, Bernice Hansen, Jack Mercer, Pinto Colvig, and Mel Blanc --- The weatherman's right. We gotta go South right away. You said it! Winter's coming! Winter's coming! Boy, oh, boy. What a day for a swim. Hey, pop. Where's everybody going? We're all going South. Groundhog says a terrible winter's coming. Ah, go on. That guy don't know his shadow from a hole in the ground. You will freeze to death if you stay here. And you won't have any food either. Don't worry about me. I got plenty of food, and right now, I'm going swimming. Haha ha ha. Haha ha ha ha. Haha ha ha ha. Huh huh huh huh huh huh. Hmm, must be hard water in this place. Blow your head off. See if I care. It's nice and warm here, and I got plenty of food. Go on and blow. Hey! Come back here with my food. Hehe he he ha ha ha ha ha! Hehe he he ha ha ha ha ha! Meow. Meow. I'm that hungry little kitty cat you just read about. Meow. Meow. I'm so hungry I could eat a... a... woodpecker. Yeah, that's it. Pardon me, buddy. That's probably the grocery man. Come in. You're just in time for dinner. Yeah? What are you gonna have for dinner? I'm gonna have cat... fish. Yeah? Let me take your scarf. You know, I think that pigeon tried to choke me. You must be pretty cold, buddy. Nah. I ain't cold. Oh yes you are. Step over by the fire and get warm... for dinner. Oh, boy. Feline fricassee. La la la la! You missed me! Now, my fine pigeon. I'm going to pick you dry. Mooo! Mooo! Meese. Mice. Moose. Meat! That was pretty good, but you know I'm still hungry. Yeah? So am I. --- Universal Pictures A Walter Lantz Production in Technicolor Universal presents Woody Woodpecker in "Pantry Panic" Prof. Weatherby Groundhog Weather Forecaster Extraordinary Weather Bulletin Underground News Service: Terrific cold wave headed this way...
