The two best friends also have to get through some obstacles to get through middle school, such as surviving their weird neighborhood kid Fregley, having to wrestle a very tough girl named Patty Farrell, having to play outdoor Phys Ed games without shirts on, avoiding being killed by Greg's older brother, Rodrick, getting very embarrassed by Greg's mother, Susan, and, worst of all, trying to avoid getting the infamous cheese touch, which was started by Darren Walsh, and Greg would have gotten it if it weren't for Chirag Gupta.
