I went my whole life wearing hearing aids. I had 85 bilateral decibel loss, and without my hearing aid in, it would take a chainsaw running at full throttle right next to me to be able to register some sound. There was never a time that I didn't desire to want to hear. Back in 2011 I got a thing called the Esteem hearing implant. It's beeping. So your device is on. Can you hear me talking? The first time I heard my kid's voices was the morning after I got the first implant activated. One table. Two people. They were in here on the kitchen floor with their little table having a tea party so I came into the kitchen and I was crying. I thought they were wound up, and he said, "No, this is them on a daily basis." They were the main push for wanting to have the device. It was tough when she first got it turned on. For probably a month I moped around because I wasn't needed any more, and I had all these things I attended to for her. It's given me self confidence. It's allowed me to do things without constantly relying on someone. It's made me a better mom, and a better wife, and a better friend. If I could just scream from the rooftops about technology and how it could revolutionize your life like it's done mine. I just want everyone to benefit. Microsoft technologies involved intraoperatively, and we do measurements with a computerized device and a laser that picks up vibrations of the hearing mechanism. In the OR, all our interface devices are windows-based systems. Microsoft provided a single platform that we could use for a full breadth of our business. That single platform had all of the tools that we needed to execute the development and even our ongoing business today. Without Microsoft technology I'd still be wishing and waiting for the pivotal moment in my life where I finally got to experience everything I ever wanted to experience.

"Microsoft 2014 Super Bowl Commercial: Empowering" We hope you have your tissues ready before watching this 2014 Super Bowl commercial from Microsoft. It feature several stories about how Microsoft and Windows products help people with live their live, and improve their lives and the lives of others. Steve Gleason is a form NFL star from the New Orleans Saints. He is well know for uniting the city after Hurricane Katrina when he blocked a field goal attempt during the Super Bowl when the Saints won the Big Game. Today, Gleason has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), and is confined to a wheelchair. He can't speak on his own, but uses a Microsoft Surface device along with eye tracking technology to type and speak. He can also browse the web and has an active Twitter presence (@TeamGleason). Braylon O'Neill is a little boy who was born without the bones in his legs. Today he wears prosthesis and gets around just like any other child. Microsoft Windows software is used to monitor his walking and stride to make imporant calibrations to his artificial legs to help him continue to walk properly as he grows. As a growing boy, it is important to regularly make sure his legs are updated and maintained regularly. Harold "Hal" Lasko is a 97 year old man who worked as a hand-drawn typographer for his career. As his eyesight diminished in his old age, he though his days of being an artist were over, but one of his grandchildren introduced him to MS Paint, and he now creates amazing works of art in this simple program which has been included with all Windows operating system since at least version 3.1 in the 1990's. He is able to zoom in to individual pixels to see and make his electronic paintings. Eric Vallieres is a thoracic surgeon who uses the Microsoft Kinect device (without the XBox) during surgery. No, he doesn't control robot arms with it, but uses it to be able to manipulate digital imagery on a computer screen during surgery without having to touch anything and contaminate his hand. Sarah Churman received a special Esteem Hearing implant and was able to hear normal sounds for the first time. We see her reaction as she hears the voice of the medical staff as they are calibrating the device. We also see scene of a deployed soldier being able to see his newborn baby from Afghanistan through the use of Skype.
