Escape from the Planet of the Apes is a 1971 science fiction film. Its plot centers around many social issues of the day including race, social status, scientific experimentation on animals, nuclear war and government intrusion as well as Women's rights. It is the second sequel to the Planet of the Apes movie of 1968, the first sequel being Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970).

During experiments to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, a genetically-enhanced chimpanzee uses its greater intelligence to lead other apes to freedom.

Eight years after the events of the first film (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed 8 years earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.
