"John Lewis Never Knowingly Undersold" This split screen commercial shows a young girl from the 1920's and a young boy from the present day. Even though neither ever actually enters the other's world, we see a love story between the two of them. They meet at a coffee/tea shop. They end up going on a date to a movie where the girl is watching a "normal" picture show and the guy is seeing a 3D movie. We get the impression that they kiss after the movie, but we never actually see them touch. Later she is riding her old bike while he is riding a more modern 10 speed bicycle. The drink together, go to an art museum, and we also see her at a dance hall while he is in a club. They temporarily break up and they are both miserable at their jobs - she at a switchboard and he is in an office. The guy writes an apology on his mobile tablet while she writes hers with pen and paper. They decide to meet back up at the tea/coffee shop and make up. The point is that what's important doesn't ever change. "John Lewis New Year New Start 2013 #NewYearNewStart" This advert shows a man ready to start his New Years resolutions. He opens up the garage and starts getting ready for a bike ride by putting his bicycle helmet on - until he notices that the tires on his bike are flat and the chain is broken. He pulls out his running shoes, but they are gross and old. He looks at his hold swimming trophy, but it is covered in dust, and his tennis racket has holes in it. An exercise machine breaks when he tries to use it and his rugby ball is flat. He decides to go to John Lewis and buy new things for his new workout routine including running clothes, new shoes, and a pedometer and then starts his run. New year, new start.
